16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.
1- Passion- When given opportunities that I am excited about, I give everything I have in order to complete the task to the best that it can be. I have never been the type of person to settle, and I excel in giving meaning and purpose into the things that I do, whether it regards school, family, sports, etc. Some people are okay with failing, but it bugs me like nothing else. For me, if I am going to complete something that I am passionate about, I will make sure that mine is the best!
2- Leadership- My whole life i have been put in leadership positions, whether it is in school, sports, or just being an older brother. I pride myself in setting an example for others to follow, because when I do, others can perform at their highest level. I am super organized and when I put my mind to something, it will get done with precision and excellence. I believe that I have the ability to lead others unlike anyone else, and the ways I function as well as my encouraging words will cause others to excel alongside myself.
3- Accepting- Another thing that makes me special is that I am open to change, differences, and things that are not normal to me. I am always open to new ideas, new perspectives, and put no barriers in the way of my learning. I feel that many people are not this way, and fail accordingly. Being open to different and abstract ideas really pushes you to be a smarter and more diverse person, and I feel I have always been this way.
4- Daring- I have always been open to taking chances, sometimes this has led me to some bad situations, but in the end, I have always learned valuable lessons from taking chances and being daring.
5- “Swag”- This one may seem a little silly, but in my opinion, someone who has “swag” is someone who makes an instant impact when they walk into a room- someone who people are eager to listen to, and someone who people are likely to follow just because they have that ‘thing’ that sets them apart from everyone else.
2) Interview the five people who know you the best.
Since some of the people who know me the best are not in town, I asked them to give a voice recording of what makes me stand out as a person. I told them to be honest, and talk about what they think defines who I am by using character traits, skills, etc. Below are the five people I interviewed. My friend Adam, my Mom, my friend Sal, my older brother, and my sister Nicole.

3) Reflect on the differences.
I see myself as a strong, confident, and influential person. The people that I interviewed are the closest people to me, and I spend a lot of time with them. I think this could be a reason why their opinions of me are similar to my own. I wonder if I interviewed people who I was less familiar with, what their opinions of me would be. There were not too many differences between the answers that the people I interviewed and myself. I think my human capital is extremely valuable and I am excited to see what I can do with it later in my life. I believe human capital brings more opportunity than any other type of capital. I don’t think I would make any corrections to my list because I feel confident that the words I used describe me well, and the people who i interviewed back it up, just with different words.

  2. Hi, Drew! Great job on this post! I think this was a great exercise in self-examination and also a nice little excuse to ask some of our friends to flatter (or roast) us. It seems that you're a very confidant person with the determination to whatever it is you need to do in order to succeed! Your friends and family also had a lot of nice things to say about you which shows that you are able to influence people positively! Keep up the great work!
